TLC Students Place Second Overall in National Academic Bowl Championship

History was made this past weekend in Washington, DC!

The Learning Center for the Deaf traveled to Washington, DC to compete in the Gallaudet National Academic Bowl Competition.

TLC placed second overall. The trip to the championship marks the first of this accomplishment in the history of Marie Philip School/The Learning Center for the Deaf !

This year was also the first year that Gallaudet held a successful "hybrid" Nationals Competition.

TLC would like to congratulate Academic Bowl player and student Kyle Florio for placing 2nd in the Trivia Cup for Social Studies, as well as winning the All-Star Award. TLC would also like to congratulate Academic Bowl player and student Tyler Furzland for winning Most Outstanding Player!

The Gallaudet University Academic Bowl was established with the goal of fostering the pursuit of academic excellence, promoting a spirit of academic competition and sportsmanship, and providing social opportunities for the development of collegiality and lifelong friendships. Every year, Gallaudet University hosts four Regional competitions for up to 80 teams of deaf and hard of hearing high school students.
